BSA 2016 requirements

We began this year under new advancement requirements published by the Boy Scouts of America. The new rank advancement requirements were the most comprehensive overhaul of scouting requirements in several years.

While many of our scouts have transitioned to the new requirements already, all remaining scouts working under the transition period of the old requirements will be required to adopt the new guidelines beginning January 1, 2017. All unfinished rank advancements at that time will require additional tasks and activities to be completed in accordance with the new guidelines.

With a few months left until the end of the year we will make every effort possible to advance your scout under the old guidelines.

A copy of the new rank advancement guidelines is available at the scout hut and I will be available to discuss any concerns you may have.





Fall Back-Pack Trip

When: October 8-11th 2016

Where: Cumberland Gap (KY, VA, TN)

Cost: $50 (bring money for travel meals $40)

Depart Saturday October 8th @ 7:30 am (eat breakfast before arrival) Return Tuesday October 11th @ 6:00 pm

Mandatory load out/gear inspection Friday October 7th @ 7:oo pm

Alabama Florida Council Fall Camporee

When: 23-25 September 2016

Where: Camp Ala-Flo, Enterprise Al

Cost: $25

Troop will camp at navajo and prepare patrol meals for Saturday Breakfast/Lunch and Sunday Breakfast.

Scoutmaster Issues: Mark Hampton

  • Brendan Franco Celebration, Saturday Sept 17 at Johnny Henderson Park. Will do a peanut boil. Need scouts to help support the event. 9am setup Saturday. Event starts at 11am. Rain date Sept 25.
  • Camporee Sept 23-24 at Camp Alaflo. $25 per scout.
  • Fall Backpack October 8-11. Cumberland Gap National Park. $50 per scout, includes all meals and fees.
  • No troop meeting on October 10th

  • Troop Position documents were turned in. Lori edited typos, etc…
  • Discussing SPL requirements
  • Discussing troop bylaws and possible adjustments. Mark will put together a book of requirements and bylaws for passing out.

Kurt’s Navaho Corner: Kurt Pierce

  • Sept. 24 Mud Run (during Camporee at Alaflo) needs volunteers. Venture Crew will help.
  • Was approached by Enterprise High School Diamond Club about teaming up to do a Halloween “Haunted Trail” event at Camp Alaflo. Funds will be split between Diamond Club and Troop 77 (which will go to Golden Eagle fund). Oct 26-29th. Need older boys to serve as “actors”. Will be petting zoo, pumpkin patch, etc…

Troop Elections

Troop elections will be held Monday, September 12 during the regular troop meeting. All scouts, especially First Class and above, are highly encouraged to attend.

Court of Honor/Eagle Court of Honor



Please join the troop for a potluck dinner and Court of Honor at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 29, where we will recognize the rank advancement, merit badges, and other special awards which the scouts have earned! We will also be celebrating with Steven Ashline and his family as he will be presented with his Eagle rank.

Scouts should be in full Class “A” uniform, including merit badge sash.

Please bring a main or side dish to share for dinner. The Ashline family will provide cake for dessert.


Canoe and Naval Aviation Museum Trip, 19-21 August 2016

We will depart the scout hut Friday 19 August 2016 at 4:30 pm and return Sunday 21 August around 5:30 pm. Scouts will be tent camping in the Blackwater wilderness Friday and Saturday Evening. We will patrol cook and work on camping skills during these nights. Saturday morning we will participate in a canoe trip down the Blackwater River that will last approximately 4-6 hours. On Sunday morning we will travel to the Navy Pensacola Air Museum and spend the day there.  Scouts should bring money to eat in the Café that afternoon.

Pack light as space will be limited for troop camping gear and other camping essentials.

August 8, 2016 – Troop 77 and Venture Crew Committee Meeting Minutes

Secretary’s Report:  Mara—No minutes to approve for July.

Financial Report:  Charlotte

-$3719.91, currently in operating funds.

-Motion was passed to allocate the troop funds from wood cutting to go to the wood trailer fund.

-Financial report approved/passed.

Admin/Advancement:  Lori

-$250.00 was donated to Troop 77 in Honor of Maj. General Green, motion was passed to allocate donation to go “bouncy blob fund” to be donated to AlaFlo lake.

-Uniform clarification for boards of review-All scouts going to 1st Class and up BOR should be in full Class A uniform to include MB Sash, and have Scout handbooks and binders, motion passed for By-laws to be amended.

-Motion was passed to amend by-laws to reflect consistency with MB and Rank Advancement guidelines.

-Motion was passed to correct the by-laws to reflect the correct amount for food purchases for outings,

$4.00-Breakfast, $5.00-Lunch, and $5.00-Dinner.

Scoutmaster Issues:  Mark Hampton

-Expectation of Responsibilities Standards and descriptions should be outlined to make clear to Scouts what is needed to fulfill their duties in their leadership roles-by laws will be amended next meeting.

-August outing—Aviation MB, going to Pensacola Air Museum, and Canoeing on Blackwater River.

-Sept. outing—Wilderness Survival tentatively scheduled for 2nd week of Sept.

-October Backpacking—8-11, Place to be determined.

-Motion passed to reimburse Webmaster expenses, and move the billing to Troop debit card.

-Boys will decide to participate in Fall Camporee or Survival MB weekend.

-Support for the Mud Run at the Fall Camporee is needed, can the Troop support this event.

2016 Boy Scout Golden Eagle Dinner

Please be our guest at the annual Golden Eagle Dinner honoring Lt. Governor Kay Ivey and benefiting the Boy Scouts of America. Funds raised at this dinner will provide the Scouting program to over 4,100 young people in our local Scout council.  Scouting continues to thrive due to friends like you who provide the funds to support our mission, “to instill values in young people.”

2017 National Jamboree

Council email insert

Who is ready to attend the National Scout Jamboree? There will be an informational meeting at the Alabama-Florida Council Service Center on Wednesday, August 10th at 6:30 PM. Anyone who is interested in finding out more about Jamboree or who has already registered should attend this meeting.

Boy Scouts must be at least First Class and 12 years old on the first day of the Jamboree or 11 and graduated from the 6th grade and under the age of 18. Venture Scouts must be at least 14 on the first day of the Jamboree or 13 and graduated from the 8th grade but not yet 21 on the last day of the Jamboree.

Jamboree is a once in a lifetime experience for most Scouts!  It going to be a great time next summer!!
